Royals finish third at Ballarat cup
The Kingston Royals Women finished 3rd in Ballarat after a solid outing at their first ever Ballarat Cup.
The Royals started with a 3-3 draw against local favourites Ballarat, with Sophie Lichoudaris getting a double on debut and Julie getting a goal.
In a sluggish second up performance, the ladies lost to Athletico Brisbane 2-1, with Ruchira Kanahara getting our only goal of the game.
In the do or die finale, the ladies took on Futsal Oz's FC Carlton Heart. Despite a slow start the ladies found their groove from kickoff and were comfortable in pegging back an early deficit in the second half, with goals to Ruchira and Julie sealing a 2-1 win and the Royals qualification to the main cup final group.
Day 2 saw the Royals pick up where they left off, defeating a determined Carlton Heart side 4-3 to get off to a strong start in their group. Legs began to fade in the next 2 games, with the ladies trying valiantly but ultimately succumbing to defeat to both Fitzroy FC and East City FC, 0-3 and 0-2 respectively.
With their efforts, the team finished 3rd and will take a lot from the showing, having blooded in a few new players into the squad, further fine tuning their defensive system and getting ready for what comes next in their Futsal lives.
The team will continue to work hard in the coming months.
